Antique Primitive Folk Art Wooden Horse Pull Toy on Wheels Leather Saddle 22”
Unbranded
Wonderful antique primitive wooden horse push/pull toy, believed to date to the late 19th to early 20th century, approximately 1890–1920. One of the most interesting features is the unusual pivoting red-painted wooden lever/tiller assembly. It is secured with a large wooden pivot/peg and has an aged leather strap passing through the opening at the end. The exact original function of this mechanism has not been determined, but it appears to have been an operational part of the child's toy rather than merely decorative. The red-painted wooden components retain a wonderful naturally distressed surface with extensive wear and areas of underlying finish showing through. Construction details include wooden joinery, recessed fasteners, metal wheel washers/hardware and a wooden pivot. Condition: Authentic antique condition with substantial age and play wear throughout. There are losses/chipping to the horse, including damage around the ears/head, scratches, abrasions, paint loss, worn wood, saddle/tack and evidence of old repairs or alterations. Some components or finishes may have been replaced or altered during the toy's long life. Please examine all photographs carefully as they are an important part of the condition description. Sold as an antique collectible/display piece only and not intended for use as a child's toy.l
