Beautiful, Spode Archive Collection Tower Pattern. Jumbo Cup & Saucer. England.
Spode
This beautiful vintage oversized cup and saucer was manufactured by Spode in Stoke-on-Tent, Staffordshire England. It was produced primarily between 1980 and 1990. This pattern was derived from the Archive Collection, the Tower. The central scene depicts The Bridge of Solaro, near Rome, Italy. The detailed landscape is derived from a historic 1796 engraving featured in the book Views of Rome and its Vicinity. The outer edges display an intricate, early 19th-century floral border pattern inspired by traditional Chinese porcelain influences. The pieces incorporate a subtle scalloped finish modeled after classic Georgian silver styling. The design is very intricate and gives an elegant overflowing glow with its deep pink to cranberry red hue and white crisp base. This pattern is the most sought-after design of the enthusiasts because of the profound history. The rarity of the size is another factor, which this set is considered as highly valuable. The artist is very successful in preserving the scenic view of the actual physical Ponte Salario structure in Italy before it was blown up during military conflicts in 1867. Sip your favorite tea or coffee using this cup as you imagine the good old days and beautiful ancient scenery that are hidden completely beneath a modern highway overpass! The set consists of: (1) Jumbo cup that measures 6.75 x 5.5 diameter x 3.5 high (1) Jumbo saucer that measures 5.75 diameter x 1.5 high The condition is excellent! mint!
